How it works

Six steps from first call to shipping code.

A clear, deliberate path that puts the right engineer in your standups quickly, with you choosing every person who joins.

  1. 01

    Scope

    Define the role

We learn what you're building, where your team needs reinforcement, the stack you run, your working hours and the kind of engineer who thrives with you. Together we write a role brief.

    • Role brief
    • Skills & stack
    • Target start
  2. 02

    Match

    Shortlist engineers

We select engineers whose experience fits the brief and share their profiles with you, with a short note on why each one suits your team.

    • Matched profiles
    • Fit notes
  3. 03

    Meet

    Interview and choose

You interview candidates the way you would interview anyone joining your team. You make the call on who joins.

    • Your interviews
    • Your decision
  4. 04

    Onboard

    Join your workflow

Your engineer gets access to your tools, channels and ceremonies, with a first-sprint plan and a starter task. Your CrossX lead coordinates the details.

Engagement models

Three ways to work together.

Pick the model that matches who directs the work, then switch as your needs evolve. Toggle between them to compare.

Team extension

Individual engineers join your team and work inside your process.

Day-to-day direction: Mostly you

Who directs day to day
Your leads. Our engineers join your standups, boards and code review.
Scope ownership
You own the roadmap and priorities. We own the quality of our engineers' work.
Best when
You have a working team and process and want more experienced hands, fast.
Getting started
The quickest start, because engineers slot into your existing setup.
How you scale
Add or release individual engineers as your roadmap changes.

Dedicated squad

A stable, cross-functional CrossX squad focused on your product.

Day-to-day direction: Shared

Who directs day to day
A CrossX lead runs the squad day to day, working closely with your product owner.
Scope ownership
You set direction and priorities. We plan and deliver the work to get there.
Best when
You want a whole capability, such as a platform or AI team, ready to go.
Getting started
A short setup period to form the squad and agree ways of working.
How you scale
Grow or reshape the squad as a unit, keeping its context and momentum.

Project delivery

A CrossX team owns a defined outcome from discovery to launch.

Day-to-day direction: Mostly CrossX

Who directs day to day
We do. You see regular demos and make the key decisions.
Scope ownership
Agreed up front in a discovery phase, then managed through change as we learn.
Best when
The goal is clear, such as a new product or a migration, and you want one accountable team.
Getting started
Starts with discovery, so the build begins with a shared plan.
How you scale
Add phases or follow-on work once the first release is live.

Talent & vetting

Engineers chosen for skill, judgment and communication.

Every engineer we introduce has passed a structured selection run by experienced CrossX engineers, then been matched to your brief on stack, domain and working style.

  1. Technical interview

A deep conversation about systems they have built, decisions they have made and the trade-offs they weigh.

  2. Practical exercise

A hands-on task in a realistic codebase, reviewed by our engineers.

  3. Communication check

Clear written and spoken English, and ease in front of stakeholders.

  4. Fit for your brief

A match on stack, domain and working style, with references on past work.

Your first weeks

A structured start, so your engineer contributes early.

Your CrossX lead coordinates onboarding with your team, so your engineer arrives with context and leaves the first sprint with merged work.

  1. Before day one

    Access & context

Accounts, repository access and a short context pack from your team, coordinated by your CrossX lead.

  2. First week

    Set up & first change

Introductions, environment setup, a walkthrough of the codebase and a first small change merged.

  3. First sprint

    Real backlog work

Work from your sprint backlog, code review from your team and a check-in at the end.

  4. Every month

    Regular check-ins

A structured conversation with you and your engineer about progress, fit and what comes next.

Working with your team

Your cadence, your tools, your hours.

  • Your rituals

Standups, planning, reviews and retros, attended live alongside your team.

  • Your tools

Your repos, tracker, chat and CI. Work stays where your team can see it.

  • US time-zone overlap

Working days that overlap with US business hours, agreed for each engagement.

  • Clear reporting

Short written updates, plus a regular check-in with your CrossX lead.

Security, IP & confidentiality

Your code, your data, your IP.

Security habits are part of every placement from the first conversation. Engineers follow your policies and work inside the access you grant.

  • NDAs in place before confidential details are shared
  • Work product and IP assigned to you under the agreement
  • Access through your accounts, with permissions you control
  • Your security policies followed for devices, credentials and data
  • Clean offboarding: access returned and knowledge handed over

Continuity commitment

A named engineer stays with your product. When a change is needed, a matched successor steps in with a full handover.

Continuity is planned from day one. Shared documentation, code review and pairing keep context inside your team, so every transition is smooth and your roadmap keeps moving.

  • Context documented as the work happens
  • Successor matched to the same brief
  • Handover overlap planned with your leads

FAQ

Staff augmentation, answered.

Everything teams ask before adding engineers. Have a question we skipped? Ask us directly.

Ask a question
How quickly can an engineer start?

Quickly. Once we agree a role brief, we introduce matched engineers for you to interview, and onboarding begins as soon as you choose. The team builder on our staff augmentation page sketches a typical path from intro call to first sprint.

What roles and experience levels do you provide?

Backend, frontend, full-stack, mobile, DevOps and cloud, QA automation, data and AI/ML engineers, plus tech leads and architects, from mid-level through principal. Tell us the mix you need and we shape the team around it.

How do you select your engineers?

Every engineer we introduce has passed a technical interview with experienced CrossX engineers, a practical exercise and a communication check. We also match on stack, domain and working style, so the people you meet fit your team as well as your backlog.

Can we interview candidates before we commit?

Yes. You meet every engineer we propose, and you choose who joins your team.

How does billing work, and is there a minimum commitment?

We agree terms for each engagement based on the roles, the length and the hours you need, and capture them in a clear written agreement. Ask us for a proposal and we will walk you through it.

Can we scale the team up or down?

Yes. Add engineers as your roadmap grows, change skill sets as priorities shift, and scale down when your own hires arrive. We agree notice periods up front so every change is planned.

Who manages the engineers day to day?

Your team leads do. Engineers take direction from your leads and follow your process. A CrossX engagement lead checks in with you and your engineers regularly and handles everything around the placement.

How do you handle time zones and meetings?

Our engineers keep working hours that overlap with US time zones, join your standups and ceremonies live, and write clear async updates for everything in between.

How are our code and data protected, and who owns the IP?

Engineers sign NDAs before they see anything confidential and work inside your accounts with the access you grant. Work product and IP belong to you under the agreement, and offboarding returns every credential.

What happens if we want a different engineer?

Tell your CrossX lead. We talk it through, introduce a matched successor and run a full handover, so your roadmap keeps moving.

Can staff augmentation and a project team work together?

Yes. You can extend your own team with individual engineers and, alongside them, hand a defined project to a CrossX squad. One CrossX lead coordinates both.

How do we begin?

Send us a short brief through the contact page or the team builder. We reply personally and set up a call to understand your roles, stack and timing.

Need engineers soon?

Tell us about the role. We'll come back with matched engineers.

Share the roles, stack and timing. We reply personally with next steps and a time for a short call.
